1) What is a 24/7 economy? PDF Print E-mail

A ‘24/7 economy’, also known as a ‘round-the-clock’ economy, means that the country’s economic activities are operational on a 24-hour basis with many activities happening concurrently. Popular and well-known 24/7 countries and cities include among others, London, New York (“the city that never sleeps”), Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo and Mumbai.

24/7 is NOT equal to working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Contrary to what is very often perceived, a 24/7 economic model does NOT mean that employees should work continuously 24 hours a day 7 days a week; rather it means working differently.  The round-the-clock economy is characterised by the adoption of alternative work practices such as flexi time and flexi schedule, shift system, compressed work week (working four 10-hour days per week), work from home, telecommuting etc.

Testimonials

" The 24/7 economic model offers a striking panoply of potential benefits not only for our economy but for every Mauritian citizen. I invite all Mauritians to take advantage of these windows of opportunities. Let’s embrace this new paradigm with a positive mindset and build a modern and dynamic Mauritius we will be proud of."

- Mr. D Tulsidas, Chairman HRDC.
